Well, we formed our transport line again tonight. Gently carrying baby chickens to their new home in the big house. Emily and I cooing softly to the bundles in our arms. Allen squawking vigorously to the bundle in his. Our babies nestling deeper in, his babies flapping wildly. Got them all settled, will provide water and food in the morning and leave them locked up for at least 3 days. Then will try letting them out into their own little chicken yard and see if they'll put themselves to bed in the right place each night. I might have to put an adult rooster in with them to take charge and teach them what to do. A friend at the farmer's market wants a big batch of Aracaunas (who lay blue-tinted eggs) and I just ordered 40 day old chicks to arrive next week. Which means I NEED the baby house to brood them in and must succeed in moving the young hens to the bigger henhouse. So we will just keep trying....
In other happenings, the homeschool curriculum we started for this year is eating up entirely too much time with busy work, so I am re-evaluating what we need to be using. It has been a difficult week, as I have been trying to decide if I was the only one unhappy with the way school was going. I hope to talk with some experienced friends and get some guidance this week, then we will try again.
Every day finds us closer to our trip to Ethiopia. All of us are getting increasingly excited. We hope to have plane tickets within the week. So hard to sort out details while preoccupied with our impending trip on the horizon. Oh, well. God will guide. At least I am having enough time to listen at this point in my life! Hooray!
