Possum Tales (in 3 Parts) Part 1

There once was a cute little possum who discovered a fairyland castle. In this castle were lots of lovely possum-sized boxes full of a possum's favorite food: eggs! So the little possum regularly stuffed its little belly until one day, a lovely feeding box with CAT FOOD in it appeared near the fairyland castle. The little possum entered the wire box and CLANG! the box snapped shut behind it. The next day, a grumpy man appeared and declared, "Julie, we caught something last night!" "Be sure you take care of it before it gets dehydrated." Later that day, a lovely maiden appeared. The little possum was curled up on its' side, cleaning its' face with its' paw. "Oh, how SWEET!" the maiden declared, pondering the little critter. "It is acting just like a little kitten!" "I usually do not like possums, but this one is so CUTE!" The lovely maiden figured that the trauma of being caught in the trap was enough to teach such a small possum a lesson. So instead of driving the possum to a state park far, far away, the lovely maiden opened the trap and plunked the little possum on the ground. The little possum was NOT grateful. It lay stiff as a board and opened its' little mouth and hissed. "Look at me, I am dead, and I have VERY. SHARP. TEETH!" "And did I mention that I am DEAD!" "Do not mess with me!" A black beast came and barked at the possum, but it was brave and remained in a ball, displaying its' fine pointy teeth and hissing ferociously. Only when the beast retreated did the little possum come to life and scurry up the tree. When the grumpy man called the fair maiden later in the day, her daughter reported that the maiden had released the possum on the property, fearing that it was too young to survive without its' mother. The grumpy man said he was relieved that at least it was not in the house with a bow around its' neck. The fair maiden was not amused, but insisted that if the man had seen how precious the little possum was while it cleaned its' face, he would have made the same decision.
